Testing

In mid 2023, Sarco completed its first round of technical instrument testing in Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

From this time, testing was conducted on an ongoing basis until the week prior to Sarco’s relocation south to Switzerland.

Testing was undertaken using a range of instrumentation (never on ‘lab rats’).

The level of oxygen was analysed continuously over the multiple testing rounds to confirm that it would drop precipitously, in a reliable and consistent manner, to < 0 in around 60 seconds.

The state of zero oxygen was consistently monitored to confirm it would be retained for up to 15 minutes.

These are the baseline criteria required to ensure a peaceful and reliable death to the user inside.

One important aspect of the testing regime was for the creator of the Sarco, Philip Nitschke, to experience for himself the feel of the operation of the Sarco from within.

In May 2024, Philip wore oxygen-fed nasal prongs. He lay in the Sarco, pressed the green activation button and experienced, for himself, the flow of the nitrogen gas.

After this experiment he reported that sensation of the entry of the gas into the capsule was barely noticeable. He said he could well imagine the peace of mind that a beautiful view out the window of the Sarco could provide.
