Missing US woman, Jennifer McLaughlin, has been confirmed as deceased by Swiss police in response to a missing person’s alert being lodged by Dr Florian Willet of The Last Resort.

The Last Resort notified Ms McLaughlin on 12 July through a 3rd party that the Sarco would likely be withdrawn from her use. This was because of ongoing concerns about her mental health. A fact confirmed by her US lawyers.

Ater this time, The Last Resort and Exit International teams tried to contact Jennifer to no avail.

In her desperation Jennifer turned to the Pegasos Swiss Association for what would appear to be a fast-track assisted death.

‘In the first week of July, when she was staying in the town of Zermatt in the Swiss Alps, it became obvious that she was not coping with her chosen path towards her assisted suicide’ said Sarco creator, Dr Philip Nitschke.

The Last Resort was told that the ‘final straw’ came when she became aware of the media storm that had commenced around the first use of the Sarco, spear-headed by Zurich broadsheet NZZ.

The Last Resort team had attempted to protect Ms McLaughlin from this storm of unwanted attention, on the basis that her final weeks were precious, and her peace should not be disturbed by those who wanted to sensationalise the Sarco, and trivialise its serious purpose.

In further evidence of her deteriorating mental state, on 24 July, Ms Mclaughlin sent emails to various friends and her lawyer in the US claiming that she was about to use the Sarco to die, something which she knew was not possible.

‘Ms McLaughlin should never have been helped to suicide. She was a person who urgently needed mental health care. This was why access to the Sarco was declined to her’ said Dr Nitschke.
